Click here to view all obituariesI feel privedged to have know Max these past many years. Despite health challenges he never complained to me and was always looking to find ways that he could be helpful to others. He was approachable and friendly, and clearly his intellect was strong.
He was a wonderful friend to my mother, Johanna. At first my mother was helping him, particularly with driving him to appointments, but as her health failed he helped her tremenduously. Every breakfast, lunch and dinner he would call to remind her to go to the Amica dining room. I remember regularly having to delete on my mothers phone all the dozens of voice mails from him saying "Hi Han. Time to go for dinner". He reported to me whenever my mother was having trouble and that made a big difference to us.
I will miss our chats which would span many topics. His memory was very sharp and he would share some really interesting stories about the past. However, he did not only dwell on the past, but also discuss current events with zeal. One of his favourite topics was the stock market and he was very good at picking out good investments. He had many interests but his background as an engineer was ever present. Always analytical but notably never judgemental. As a Queen's U graduate too, I enjoyed listening to his stories from his years there. Equally fascinating was his war service.
Thank you Max for being such good friend to my mother and to me. My condolences to the family.
