Obituary for Ronald Charles Chambers

Ronald Charles Chambers
CHAMBERS, Ronald Charles
March 18, 1933 – February 22, 2017
Passed away peacefully in Markham on February 22, 2017 in his 84 th year surrounded by his
devoted daughters Sandy, Gail, Judy and Patricia. Predeceased by his loving wife Mary
Elizabeth Chambers (nee Roberts). Caring grandfather to Shannon, Richard, Caiden, Tommy
and Robbie. Remembered fondly by his sons-in- law Bill and Andy, many nieces and nephews,
neighbours and friends. Ron was born in Brantford, Ontario and educated at Ryerson, Queen’s
and the University of Toronto. He was a past President of the Ryerson Student Union. Ron was
a proud and well-respected Professional Mechanical Engineer whose career took him on travels
around the world. His married life saw him reside mostly in Markham with his wife of over 50
years. In later life, he was active in the local community as a member of the Markham Lion’s
Club, St. Andrews United Church and on other board positions. Ron had an intelligent and
curious mind, a zest for life, abundant energy and drive to succeed in everything he did. He was
a man of many talents – he played the mouth harp and banjo enthusiastically, built and flew
model airplanes across North America for which he won many awards and was athletic and a
recognized archer. He played hockey and baseball on local Markham teams and continued to
water and cross-country ski until late in life. He was an accomplished carpenter and could also
draw and paint beautifully. He designed and built a family cottage along with repairing and
building many beautiful pieces for family and friends to enjoy over the years. He had an
appreciation for good food, loved adventure, music, nature and spending time with his family
and friends. Ron was always the first to volunteer a helping hand. Many have been inspired by
him and describe him as an exceptional man. He will be greatly missed by all.
A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, March 18, 2017 at St. Andrew’s United Church, 32
Main Street N., Markham, at 1:00 pm. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Lions
Club, World Vision, or Salvation Army. If desired, condolences may be left at www.dixongarland.com.
