The Checkered Flag
- For my father
I’ve lived my life full of passions
with toys that soared and raced and roared
Mosport in my heart, noisy snowmobiles
air flights and dirt bikes Oh! The throttles I’ve floored!
My Crew Chief and First Mate was my best gal
the Pit Board read two girls then a son
I skippered my family (along with the dogs)
to race tracks and Maritime beaches of fun
I tinkered, I fixed, idle hands not mine
over vintage cars or stuff that just broke
Sometimes I cursed a streak of blue
but, my resolve to finish I refused to revoke
Like an Allard, life drives so goddamn fast!
I’ve shut my blue eyes, relaxed my grin
The Pole Sitter has now dropped back a row
Checkered Flag, Victory Lap, a Scotch for the win.
With love, Su
