Obituary for James Newton Rae

RAE, James (Jim) Newton –

Born January 14, 1921, passed away on Sunday, September 24th, 2017 in his 97th year after a brief illness with family by his side. Jim was predeceased by his beloved wife Evelyn (Beach), his eldest son, Jim Rae Jr. and his dear friend Peggy Hood. Our father will be deeply missed by his children, David (Nancy), Karen and Lynn. Grandpa will be dearly missed by his grandchildren, Debbie (Dionisio), Beverly (Carmine), Darryl (Chantelle), Jennifer (Scott), Sarah (Matt), Ben (Donna) and Abigail (Bruce) as well as his great grandchildren, Sabrina, Daphnie, Jenna, Gabriel, Hallie, Mckenzie, Joshua, Angelina, Dexter, Aidan, Crosby and Cooper. Dear brother to Doreen Deacon of Cobourg and Elaine (Joe) Pagnello of Castleton. Loving uncle to many nieces and nephews. Jim was the eldest son of the late Stewart and Marion Rae and brother to the late Norma Carey, William (Bill) Rae and Robert (Bob) Rae. Jim was a WW2 veteran having served as a mechanic in the Royal Canadian Air Force. After the war he farmed on McCowan Road for over 40 years before retiring to Stouffville with Evelyn. He served 2 terms as Ward 4 Councillor for Whitchurch Stouffville in the 1980’s. He enjoyed agricultural trips to Mexico, England, Jamaica, Australia and New Zealand, playing bridge, euchre and bid euchre at the 55+ Club, breakfast with his friends at McDonalds but most of all he loved spending time with his family. Family and friends are invited to the DIXON-GARLAND FUNERAL HOME 166 Main Street North Markham (Markham Rd) on Thursday September 28th from 2-4 and 7-9 pm. A celebration of life will be held in the chapel on Friday September 29th at 11am. Interment at Stouffville Cemetery. In Lieu of flowers, donations may be made to a charity of your choice.
