Obituary for
Josef Kachlik
Josef Kachlik
It is with great sadness that we say goodbye to Josef Kachlik. Born in Brno, Czech Republic on August 23, 1928, Josef passed away on September 23, 2016 in Markham, Ontario at the age of 88.
He was predeceased by his beloved wife Sylvie, with whom he shared over 65 wonderful years, and his devoted brother Alfons Kachlik.
He will be deeply missed by his sister Anicka and her family, his daughter Sylva McCormick (Paul), his son Roger Kachlik (Helena) and his grandchildren Monika and Brian Kachlik.
Josef was a strong and courageous man. In 1970, Josef and Sylvie, with their two small children in tow, escaped from Czechoslovakia with nothing but the clothes on their backs, leaving behind cherished family and all their possessions. After spending five months in an Italian refugee camp, the family immigrated to Canada. The first years were difficult and they often remembered with sadness those they left behind. But they endured. Their only goal was to give their children a better life, and that they did.
Josef had a wide range of interests including history, literature, music, computers, travel and languages. In everything he did, he was a very kind and compassionate gentleman, deeply devoted to his family.
The caring support that Josef received from the staff at Union Villa and from his personal care givers will not be forgotten by the family.
Josef is resting at the Dixon-Garland Funeral Home in Markham where a private family service will be held. Memories and condolences may be directed to this website.
