Obituary for
Nicholas "Niko" Karayannides
Karayannides, Nicholas 1968-2016
After a much too early and valiant battle with cancer Niko passed away peacefully, on Monday February 1st, where he was happiest, at home with his greatest loves, his wife Kelly (nee Eaton) and daughters Zoe and Mia. Niko's irrepressible spirit lives on in their hearts and minds, and those of his parents Anthoula, Doug and Pat, siblings Johnny (George), Pam, Mimi and Angelo, nieces and nephews Elena, Spyro, Joanna, Michael, Alexander, Basil, Christian and Demetre. His soul is at rest with that of his father Demetre.
Niko lived a life filled with love, generosity and caring. He believed that if you give, you begin to live. It was never about him. Perched on his watchtower, Niko loved, guided, supported and revelled in the accomplishments of "his girls", he is still there. The space between the tears we cry is the laughter that keeps us coming back for more. There will always be more Niko.
The family will receive friends at Dixon-Garland Funeral Home, 166 Main St. North (Markham Rd.) Markham, on Thursday, February 4th from 2:30-4:30 pm and 7-9 pm. A service will be held on Friday, February 5th at All Saints Greek Orthodox Church, 3125 Bayview Avenue North York at 11am. Interment will follow at York Cemetery, 160 Beecroft Road North York.
In lieu of flowers, donations to Zoe and Mia's Education Fund (c/o Kelly), or the Country Gardens Foundation of Hope, Inc. (http://preservecompany.com/blogs/gardens-of-hope) would be appreciated.
